

In the 1970's, when many countries were experiencing an energy crisis, the first pellet plant was opened in North America. Pellet heat was first used for commercial and industrial uses. Schools soon realized that pellet technology provided safe, reliable, and clean heat, without the instability of fossil fuels.
In the eighties the pellet industry grew by leaps and bounds.
Today it seems we may be facing another difficult period with petroleum fuels. The price has swung high again for oil and gas in New England and across the U.S.
The wood pellet industry is governed by the Pellet Fuels Institute. The PFI sets standards for wood pellet quality. The PFI promotes biomass fuel technology, and the use of local remewable energy sources.
